On another recent hike for discovery, the Recon team came across this 1920s Farm pump. Like many other interesting and historical items out at Haven Hill, this pump was in the middle of what appeared to be nowhere, This made this discovery even more interesting, as to almost stumble upon such an item. Now….to many people this would not be anything more then a hand water pump. But in a historical aspect and putting together what the Ford Estate and Farm was all about at Haven Hill, this pump is a significant treasure. The problem here is that without that attitude towards an item of this nature, this pump would make for some great scrap metal money. Hack that puppy down at it’s base and the scrap dealers will give you a pretty penny for such weighted metal. We at the Haven Hill Project have watched as some of these kinds of things have happened at Haven Hill. What appears to be just scrap, to the untrained eye, is truly a valuable historical treasure. It’s placement in the environment, it’s location are all important to understanding the whole picture in the historical and natural areas at Haven Hill. Hopefully, with all the concerned groups focusing attention on this part of the Park, things will remain where they are and studied in place to truly understand their significance in the story there. Enjoy these treasures and lets make sure our children get the same chance to enjoy them too.
