Finally…….after a number of re-edits, re-formatting and updates, we are in our final draft to the Printers for our first book entitled simply, “HAVEN HILL”, The study of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford estate at Haven Hill. It is what we think are the basics of our almost 2 years of research at Haven Hill, the Edsel Ford estate at Highland recreation area.

It has been a long road to this point, and we have left much out of this first Book. but we thought it was time to get the basics and some details, as a foundation to further Book releases on this subject.

The Book should be out in December, followed by a matching Video of the same name. “HAVEN HILL”. The Video will have the latest detailed photos, short Video clips and many details and descriptions of our research and the Haven Hill estate. Also as part of these two releases, will be new details Maps of the Park, Historical maps, detailed maps of just the way the estate was, when the Ford family was living there, and a couple of detailed drawings of the Lodge and other estate features.

We will post an official availability date as soon as our Publisher lets us know. We are very excited about getting our research and hard work published and shown to the public. There is so very little out there on the Edsel Ford estate, and the Book and Video should fill in many gaps on the available information on Haven Hill and even the Natural area that surrounds the estate.

Look for official release dates on the Book and accompanying Video very shortly.

With so much done and so much left to explore, investigate and research, the Haven Hill Project Team is putting together the final details on what will be the first of three Book releases. The first book is due out very soon, followed by second Book focused more on the Mapping, GPS coordinates and Historical layout and placements in the Haven Hill historical area at Highland.

We could have rushed some of this, but wanted to straddle the book releases, so that the focus on each book would be certain aspects of the historical and natural areas at Haven Hill. We thought it easier to follow what will be in each release, rather then a giant volume of everything at once. Plus there will be ongoing research that is getting deeper and deeper as we go.

In a way, each of the Books will be separate volumes of the Master book: The Haven Hill Project.

This Saturday, june 19th at 12pm-3pm, we will be leading a History Hike for Hiking Michigan, at Highland Recreation Area. This will be our second in a series of History Hikes out on the Haven Hill preserve in Highland.

This is the site of the old Edsel Ford Estate, as well as the Nature preserve that surrounds the Estate. It is a wonderful combination of History and Nature in one setting. There has been many new discoveries over the last year, so there are some very interesting things we have to show you.

We will visit the Carriage house, Lodge, Fountain, Poll, Tennis courts and if everyone is up for it, we will show you some of the newly GPSed Ford private Nature trails. There should be something for everyone. Detailsed Maps and info of the Haven Hill and Estate will be there for all in attendance.

We have been overwhelmed with emails and suggestions and comments about not only our recent History Hike, but the Haven Hill project study group as well. probably the most suggested item after our recent Hike is that the Haven Hill Project should become a 501(c)3 Non-Profit group, so that we all can assist in protecting the historical and natural places at Highland recreation area.

As people are becoming aware of not only the History, but the Natural aspects of the Haven Hill area, the more they want it all protected. Most people have expressed a want to keeping the area as natural as possible. Not turning the whole place into a circus for money. We agree with this completely! The area should be studied, shown to the public and protected in as many different ways as possible. No one is interested in facsimiles of what once was there. Not even the Ford family is interested in that. This is very clear in the huge response we have received from the 1st History Hike.

The Haven Hill Project is now looking at some possible avenues in assisting the people of the state of Michigan preserve and protect their history and Parks. We will keep you all posted. And thanks for the great support for the cause.

For a short review of our wonderful afternoon at Highland Recreation are, in White Lake Twp., we put a short video together. Nothing special, but it shows what fun we all had while learning some things about the Ford Estate history and Oakland county history. All while having the sun shine down on a beautiful Winter afternoon on the snow covered hills in Southeastern Michigan. Truly doesn’t get to much better then this.

Join us in the Spring for our 2nd in the series of HISTORY HIKES at Haven Hill, when the snow has gone and the fine point details of all that remains at Haven Hill is better reveled to everyone. See you all there on the Hill.
